2012 Soundstream Adelaide New Music Festival is a celebration of new music in Australia. It was established in 2008 by Artistic Director Gabriella Smart as a platform for collaboration, discourse and performance of new music. The theme of the 2012 Festival (12- 20 October) is Interface – a celebration of new music through community.
The 2010 Soundstream Festival won a Ruby Award.
Early in 2011 a new initiative came into being: the Soundstream Collective. This is an ensemble-in-residence based at the Elder Conservatorium of Music and part of the University of Adelaide’s commitment to supporting the development of new music in South Australia. Because of the efforts being focussed on the developing the Soundstream Collective ready to deliver four concerts, at the Elder Hall, during 2011 it was decided not to provide the Soundstream Adelaide New Music Festival in 2011 but, rather, take a longer term perspective and develop the program to a higher level and provide a contemporary music festival in October 2012 with a much expanded scope.
Soundstream: Adelaide New Music Festival (SANMF) is a celebration of new music in Australia. Established in 2008 by Artistic Director Gabriella Smart as a platform for collaboration, discourse and performance of new music, Soundstream is committed to the development of contemporary music practices and the creation of new works through the support of emerging and established Australian composers and performers. The 2012 Festival focuses on new music at grass roots level, with strong community involvement in works by internationally recognised composers in keeping with Smart’s vision of staging a niche festival with an international profile in Adelaide.
The theme of the 2012 Festival (12 – 17 October) is Intersection – a celebration of new music through community. The Festival will be the fourth of its kind in Adelaide and the third time it has been independently presented by Artistic Director Gabriella Smart. SANMF is delighted to have the support of ABC Classic FM as its major presenting partner and to continue its valued relationship with Winston Music. New collaborative partnerships have also been established with the Adelaide City Council, The Architects’ Institute of Australia, State Opera, and the University of Adelaide.
Details of the 2012 Festival program will soon be posted.
