Soundstream: Adelaide New Music Festival is a celebration of New Music in Australia. The festival was founded in 2008 by Artistic Director Gabriella Smart with the specific aim of creating a national and international profile for contemporary classical music in South Australia and to reflect and shape contemporary Australian culture through excellence in new music performance practice, composition and education. Emerging and established local composers are showcased alongside seminal contemporary classical works from around the world.

As an annual independent music festival, Soundstream is committed to the development of contemporary music practices and the creation of new works through the support of both emerging and established Australian composers and performers. The result is a unique experience in contemporary chamber music, internationally recognized for its innovative programming.

As the only event of its kind in South Australia, Soundstream is providing audiences and artists alike with the opportunity to engage in a local and relevant forum. Through the support of emerging and established artists, composers and creators, Soundstream is promoting the best of South Australian music and culture on a national and international stage.

2012
The theme for the 2012 Festival is INTERSECTION – bringing the community into the world of new music through involvement and active participation. Now a biannual event, the 2012 Festival will be the fourth in a series of widely acclaimed new music experiences.

2010
In its third year, the festival served a unique role in the cultural life of South Australia. As the only annual event in the state to specifically celebrate classical contemporary music performance and practice, we maintained a reputation for clever programming and the highest artistic calibre, by engaging world-class performers and nurturing vital networks and collaborations locally, nationally and internationally.

2009
The 2009 Soundstream Festival proved Gabriella Smart’s ability to “to draw together top-notch performers, program interesting works, and draw respectably sized audiences to shows.”
